![]() – Also, make sure the harddisk that you installed your Addictive Drums 2 kits on is plugged in, in case you installed the samples on an external HD. – If you don’t see the Maschine Mikro, make sure it has Midi mode enabled and possibly reboot Addictive Drums. You should see the names of your controller and your audio interface. – I made the screenshot below with my RME Fireface audio interface and a Presonus Atom as controller, so that’s why you see those in the screenshot. – Make sure Addictive Drums has your audio interface enabled and your Maschine mikro controller connected and enabled as incoming controller. Step by step guide with Addictive Drums 2 – You can also use the other method, by opening up Controller Editor and changing the notes of the pads, as explained in the Installation lesson, but the method below I think is the fastest and the easiest. ![]() If you want to use other drum software, like Superior Drummer or Native Instruments Abbey Road kits, There is a lesson about alternative software drumkits later on in this course! Exactly as explained in the Installation lesson. – With MIDI learn and Addictive Drums (or any other software that support Midi learn), the setup process is very fast and easy. – Then go to Assign, Press and then turn it completely off. – You can select every pad in controller editor at the same time by holding the shift button, or ctrl or command (Mac), so you can set this for every pad in one go. ![]() You can make this better by turning the poly-pressure off for each pad. If your finger isn’t completely lifted from the pad, the device might register another hit as pressure instead of a new hit. – Sometimes, the aftertouch setting makes the device not detect your hits accurately. Sometimes setting the slider to the least sensitive setting will give you the best pads… it’s stupid but that’s how it works at the moment. I think this has to do something with the device trying to filter out accidental note triggers, which then leads to higher sensitivity settings actually being less reliable. Weirdly enough, sometimes you have to set it to be less sensitive in order for the pads to respond well and not get stuck. Don’t change anything yet! Should you encounter pads not being responsive when playing, it usually helps to adjust the sensitivity slider. – Go to file, preferences, Maschine Mikro mk3 and just look at where the sensitivity slider is at the moment. – Run controller editor ( on windows pc’s run as administrator) – Now press shift + maschine logo to activate MIDI mode. – Plug your maschine mikro out and plug it back in. – Make sure no Maschine software is running. – Once the firmware is upgraded you can close the Maschine software. – Make sure you install the firmware update because you might need it to be able to activate MIDI mode! – It should automatically recognize your Mikro Mk3 controller and if there’s a firmware update available for the device, you will be notified. – After installing everything, run the Maschine Software. Native Access will look something like this. – I suggest installing everything you see. If you registered your Maschine you should be able to download the offical Maschine software. – When you login to Native Access with your account details, you’ll see a list of software that you can install. – Then you’ll need a program called Native Access that can download and install all the software that you need. You might need to create an account and fill in serial numbers and all that stuff. We will use Maschine mikro mk3 in MIDI mode and make it control Addictive Drums 2. – So that’s what we’re going to do in this guide. – However, I found that if you just want to play some drums, and especially if you want to play drums that don’t sound like samples, it’s by far the easiest to just turn the Maschine into MIDI mode and use it as a standalone midi controller without the Maschine software. – There’s a lot of ways you can load samples and setup routing inside Maschine software in order to get a drumkit going with the basic QFG pad layout. – Obviously, all Maschine products come with the Maschine Software, and used together with the software the Maschine controllers turn into serious beatmaking workstations. Some things you need to know about the Mikro Mk3 I also give some handy extra tips about optional MIDI CC modifiers and Cymbal chokes, so check it out! This will help you understand the reasoning behind the layout which I think is good to know for anyone studying with me. Also note that while I list the QFG pad layout in the setup instructions below, I can recommend you watching the video in which I break down my pad layout as well.I think this will give you a better starting point than only reading the instructions below. Make sure you've checked out the Installing Everything lesson because everything you need to know is explained there in general terms.
